SERVICIO 05 DE 5

Before searching, we check that the deal makes sense

Some cars are not worth importing. Saying so in time is part of the service.

Not every import stacks up on paper. Before we start searching we run the request through a viability filter, and if it does not pass we tell you with the numbers in front of you.

Four things decide it almost every time: where the car was built, how much CO₂ it emits, whether it has a European certificate of conformity, and which Spanish emissions label it would get. A car built outside the Union pays duty. One with high emissions pays the top band of registration tax. One without a European certificate needs individual approval, with unpredictable cost and timing. And an older diesel can be hard to use in cities with low-emission zones.

It also depends on who is buying. A company that needs a van reclaims the import VAT in full, and there the deal is very competitive. A private buyer reclaims nothing, and then it only makes sense in specific cases.

Special case: you are moving back to Spain

If you have lived outside the European Union for more than twelve months and the car has been yours for more than six, transfer-of-residence relief removes the duty, the VAT and the registration tax. It has a page of its own.

Special case: over thirty years old

A collector vehicle may qualify for a different and far more favourable customs treatment. It requires an expert report on originality.
