You are moving back from Switzerland and bringing your car

If you meet three conditions, transfer-of-residence relief removes the customs duty, the import VAT and the registration tax. You pay no tax at all: only our work.

Los tres requisitos

    Twelve months outside the European Union

    You must have had your habitual residence outside Union territory for at least twelve consecutive months.

  2. 02

    Six months of using the vehicle

    The car must be yours and must have been used at your former residence for at least six months before the move.

  3. 03

    Twelve months to import

    The import must take place within twelve months of establishing your residence in Spain.

If you do not meet all three conditions, the relief does not apply and the import becomes an ordinary one. We tell you before we start, not after.

Cómo funciona

This is the smoothest case we handle, and the one most people do not know about. If you are moving back to Spain after a spell in Switzerland and bringing your car with you, transfer-of-residence relief removes the entire tax burden on entry: no duty, no import VAT, and exemption from registration tax.

It does not work for buying a car and bringing it over: the vehicle has to be yours and to have been used beforehand. There is also a condition not to sell it for a set period after import. Selling early loses the exemption.

What remains is the work: the Swiss export declaration, transport, type approval, the roadworthiness test, the tax filing with the exemption correctly claimed, and registration with the traffic authority. That is exactly what we do.
